Recent Advances in Adjuvant Pharmacotherapy for Neonatal Indirect Hyperbilirubinemia: A Narrative Review
نویسندگان
چکیده
Context: Hyperbilirubinemia is a common cause for diagnostic work-up and therapeutic intervention in neonates needs convenient, quick, safe treatment modality. Phototherapy the most neonatal jaundice; however, complementary still needed. Despite identification of enzymatic pathways bilirubin catabolism, few pharmacological interventions have been found to be effective reducing bilirubin, along with traditional phototherapy. This review was conducted evaluate recent pharmacotherapies as adjuvants phototherapy indirect hyperbilirubinemia (IHB). Evidence Acquisition: study carried out through literature search keywords Infant, Newborn, Indirect Hyperbilirubinemia, combined Drug Therapy, PubMed, Scopus, International Statistical Institute, Web Science, Cochrane, Embase databases. included relevant articles (i.e., randomized controlled trials, observational studies, guidelines, reviews) written English published between 2012 - 2022. Results: narrative first assessed define IHB its etiology. Then, efficacy side effects pharmacologic agents were discussed. Additionally, this reviewed safety drugs prescribed prevent jaundice. Conclusions: The best drug adjuvant pharmacotherapy, addition phototherapy, jaundice has not identified. use probiotics, prebiotics, synbiotics, ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA) recently increasing, beneficial results observed studies. agar, charcoal, fibrate, phenobarbital had minor role years. There conflicting about herbal intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG), metalloporphyrin, albumin also limited severe or immune-related cases. prescription aforementioned sometimes different results. Therefore, further research regard necessary.

Recent advances in pharmacotherapy of glaucoma
Glaucoma is a slow progressive degeneration of the retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and the optic nerve axons, leading to irreversible blindness if left undiagnosed and untreated. Although increased intraocular pressure is a major risk factor of glaucoma, other factors include increased glutamate levels, alterations in nitric oxide (NO) metabolism, vascular alterations and oxidative damage caused ...
متن کاملRecent advances in pharmacotherapy of atrial fibrillation
Atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most common sustained arrhythmia associated with increased morbidity and mortality. Efficacy and safety of currently employed antiarrhythmic drugs (AADs) continue to be less optimal in AF. Development of newer AADs has recently been made possible through a greater understanding of electro-pathophysiology of AF. Highly specific drugs acting on atria are currently ...
متن کاملRecent Advances in Pharmacotherapy Development for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a common disease causing segmental expansion and rupture of the aorta with a high mortality rate. The lack of nonsurgical treatment represents a large and unmet need in terms of pharmacotherapy. Advances in AAA research revealed that activation of inflammatory signaling pathways through proinflammatory mediators shifts the balance of extracellular matrix (ECM)...
متن کاملRecent Advances in Crystal Engineering from Nanoscience Views: A Brief Review
Crystal engineering has recently emerged as a method of choice for the design and construction of organic as well as metal-organic functional materials. Crystal engineering attempts to establish packing trends in whole families of compounds and seeks to establish connections between structure and function. The utility of crystal engineering has also been expanded to the nanoscience and the deve...
متن کاملNeonatal indirect hyperbilirubinemia and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency
PURPOSE This study aimed to determine the prevalence of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency among infants with neonatal indirect hyperbilirubinemia (NIH); compare G6PD-deficient and G6PD-normal patients regarding hyperbilirubinemia and need for exchange transfusions (ET); and assess risk factors for ET and kernicterus. METHODS This is a case-control retrospective study. Medica...
